Burton run riot against Market Harborough to make it 2 wins in a row

Market H & Melton M U15 Vixens 10 - Burton U15 Girls 52
By Kevan Day

Burton were captained by Nieve for their away match with Market Harborough & Melton Mowbrey Vixens on Sunday 10th November, the squad was bolstered by 4 girls from Leamington Spa, Fern Scobie, Grace Standbridge, Ellen Ramsbottom & Melissa Johnson. The game started brightly with Burton narrowly missing an opening try in the 1st minute, Hannah then opened the scoring with a try which she then converted, followed by an uncoverted try by Fern but then the game took a nasty turn for the worse when Melissa suffered a serious head & neck injury, this delayed the game for a long while as she was imobalised on the pitch awaiting an ambulance. Sadly it was to take about an hour before it arrived but by then she was feeling a little brighter and at the time of writing we have just heard how she got on at hospital, she fortunately only suffered heavy bruising (best wishes to her).

The girls were moved to a larger pitch to allow the game to continue and this really played into their hands as Burton used their width to great effect throughout the entire game, they quickly managed to put the injury to Melissa out of their minds and Hollie went over for a try, again converted by Hannah. The Vixens then struck back with a try of their own to bring the score to 19-5 before another Hollie/Hannah try & conversion. The Vixens wouldn't let Burton have their own way and gained another try to bring the scores to 26-10, this seemed to make Burton even more determined, the Forwards led by Neve, producing a stunning captains display in the middle of the park, brilliantly assisted by Emma & Molly as they drove the Vixens back time & time again. Hollie & Hannah were snapping up all the balls the forwards were generating allowing Caitlin & the Leamington girls to run around the Vixens meaning tries by Grace, then 2 more by Fern to complete her hat trick, all converted by Hannah taking Burton to a 48-10 lead. Defensively the Burton girls just wouldn't let the vixens back into the game, epitomised by Caitlin's performance playing in her County role at Fullback, such a mature performance for only her second time in that role. With the final play of the game came Burton's final try when Ellen managed to somehow stay with Hollie as she tore from one end of the pitch to the other before being brought down just short of the line, popping the ball up for Ellen to dive over.

A big mention to Heather, even though she is still sidelined by injury she worked tirelessly making sure the girls had their water, Hannah her kicking tee and was a big help to me with her input to the girls at the breaks.

Girls you are going from strength to strength, I am so proud of you all!
