Burton girls play amazing but come up short against a very experienced opposition

On very short notice Burton girls agreed to host a friendly match against Market Harborough. with the opposition boasting a host of regional players and 2 under 20 England internationals Burton were always going to be up against it.
The match kicked off and Burton number 10 (Alicia Lonergan)kicked long, the Burton girls chased down the ball tackling everything that moved until Market Harborough experienced showed exploiting an overlap and scoring under the posts.
Facing a well drilled side the Burton girls struggled to wrestle possession away from Market Harborough, although Burton were tackling everything they could not stop more scores for the opposition. Burton front row sccrumaged well (Tyia Henningham, Kelsey Grigg, Abbi Mason) and were pushed hard by the hard working second row (Ellana Cassella, Anna Bartram) and guided well by the number 8 (Charlotte Walker) but were eventually out powered by the older more experienced opposition.
Jade Hall really had her work cut out at scrum half against the selected regional scrum half but acquitted herself fantastically.
With the match being a 12 a side match there was no Flankers so both (louise Yeomans and Lucy Beckett both flankers) played in the backs and like every other player gave it there all.
The Burton centers (Elli Omahoney and Hollie Walker) struggled to get hands on ball but when they did they ran straight and hard making good yards.

However Burton did manage to get points on the board when Alicia kicked a penalty (Burton girls although losing celebrated like they had won the world cup) the girls never gave up and played with smiles on their faces until the very end. Lots of lessons learned but this set of girls will get better and better, we just have to remember these girls are mainly 15 and 16 year olds who are playing against much older and much more experienced opposition.

Well done girls
