Burton score against strong opposition

Sunday the 10th of November will be remembered for many reasons one of which was that i (Dean Palphreyman) almost single handedly sabotaged 3 games of rugby by sending all our teams to the WRONG rugby club (sorry), but the main reason this date will be remebered is for when we all finally arrived (sorry again) our under 18 team played some magnificent rugby.

Due to injury, Illness and other commitments we were only able to field 8 players, fortunately for us Market Harborough were gracious hosts and leveled up the sides by loaning us 2 players making it a 10 v 10 game. Immediately Market Harborough could tell this was a very different Burton side to the one which they had played just 4 weeks before.

Abi Mason was given kickoff duties for the game and started the match, Market Harborough gathered but were pounced upon by an eager Burton side forcing knock ons from the experienced side.
Burtons 5 girl scrum Tyia, Kelsey, Elli, Abbi and Lucy showed that they were no pushovers and did not give an inch all game. Jade played scrum half the best she has ever played and Charlotte and Louise filled in the backs tackling everything in front of them and running strong with ball in hand when they got the chance.

Market Harborough did manage to break our defensive line on several occasions but for long periods of time Burton matched the opposition in every department, it was just a little bit of experience and pace that showed to be the difference between the 2 sides.

Burton may have been beaten but never gave up and with the score at 51-0 many teams would have let their heads drop but not this set of girls. The very tall player (she was at least 7 foot tall) loaned to us by Market Harborough went on a charge to be tackled 10 meters from the try line but taking on board our recent training (support support support) Tyia was in the right place at the right time to take the pop pass and charge over the line for a much celebrated try.

This was so much improved from our first encounter with players playing with confidence, Elli (finally ran straight) swatting players aside, Charlotte crashing into players, Kelsey running hard at the opposition, Lucy giving her all taking the ball at pace, Louise and Abi Supporting brilliantly, Tyia scoring and Jade showing confidence in everything she did.

Well done girls keep going we will get there!!! be proud i am.
