Matt Huxley 4-0 Bridport

The Heath were back in league action again at Springfield on an unfamiliar Tuesday night (we’re playing again on Good Friday) where Bridport were the visitors, making the long trip up from Dorset.
A youthful Heath side, captained for the first time by Callum Ball due to an injury to Simon McElroy, were keen to build on Saturdays 3-0 home win over Roman Glass St George. Bridport are always tough opposition and both teams were similarly placed in the league and eyeing up 10th position at the end of the season.
The Heath broke the deadlock in the 20th minute from the penalty spot, Matt Huxley coolly sending the keeper the wrong way after a handball by a Bridport defender. A great start for the Heath that was put in jeopardy in the 26th minute when some desperate defending resulted in a lunge by a Heath player, chopping down a Bridport player in the penalty area with the ref pointing to the spot. The Bridport number 10 stepped up confidently and launched the ball somewhere into orbit, last seen bouncing around in Oldland – a lucky escape for the Heath.
For the rest of the first half Bridport controlled the midfield, pushing to try and get an equaliser but were thwarted by a combination of good Heath defending, some good saves by Matt Semple in the Heath goal and some wasted chances by Bridport. It remained 1-0 to the Heath at halftime, with Matt Huxley’s penalty remaining the difference.
The 2nd half got underway and the Heath were ready for a Bridport onslaught, however in the 47th minute the Heath extended our lead by a spectacular Matt Huxley overhead kick into the top corner. His initial strike hit the bar, bounced on the goal line and back out to the 6-yard box, but Huxley reacted quickest to land a perfect overhead kick, sending the ball rocketing past the Bridport keeper into the top corner – a great goal and a great time to make it 2-0.
Bridport remained in the game, but were missing some great chances. In the 71st minute, after a clever through ball, Matt Huxley sealed his hattrick, slotting home from close range to make it 3-0 to the Heath. Late into the game Matt Huxley grabbed his fourth of the evening, making it 4-0 to the Heath after driving home from the edge of the area.
Bridport carved out plenty of chances but the Heath were deserved winners on the night, scoring 7 goals and conceding none in our last 2 games. Great to see Matt Huxley taking his haul for the season to a superb 29 goals – class is permanent.
Up next for the Heath is a tough derby on Good Friday away at local rivals Bitton, kick off at 1200. We’re in league action again on Easter Monday at home to Clevedon Town, kick off 1500. All support very welcome and much appreciated!
Up The Heath!
