Leathal on the break

Cadbury Heath 3v1 St Blazey. Att.60 (25 Away)

Wembley will have to wait for another season as Cadbury Heath scored 3 second half goals to secure a second round home tie with Shepton Mallet.

St Blazey supporters began arriving at the club from 8.30am as the pitch inspection confirmed the game was on. The coach left at 9am picking up supporters and players along the way. After a journey in miserable weather conditions, they arrived around 1pm at Cadbury Heath F.C.

Cadbury Heath haven’t had the greatest of starts to this season, but last week, they had a great F.A cup win away at Andover. Nothing but a good performance from St Blazey would do to take anything from this cup tie.

St Blazey played the first half down hill and more than matched their opponents playing some neat football and using the width to create good chances. The pitch was looking well looked after and helped St Blazey play some good football. New signing Earl was using his pace and causing them all sorts of problems down the left hand side. Johnson and Eaton were playing well in midfield. St Blazeys best chance of the 1st half fell to Jason Vincent who found himself in space on the edge of the box. His snap shot was dragged wide when he could have took another couple touches such was the space he was given. Cadbury Heath had a great chance to go in at half time in front but the break down the right, followed by the low cross across goal was smashed over the bar.

Half Time. Cadbury Heath 0v0 St Blazey.

St Blazey would have been pleased with their first half performance. They took the game to Cadbury Heath and kept them fairly quiet. That hard work would be all undone in the opening couple minutes of the second half as St Blazey lost possession. The ball down the right was squared across goal leaving St Blazey wide open and their forward couldn’t miss. This triggered a period when St Blazey couldnt get on the ball and it wasnt long before they made it 2v0. But for a linesman’s flag it would have been three. St Blazeys goalkeeper Toby Chapman was being kept busy and he pulled off several great saves to keep St Blazey in the game. He was beaten by one shot but the bar came to his rescue. St Blazey then had a good 15 minute spell where they pinned Cadbury Heath back. Josh Harris cut in from the left and on his weaker foot hit a great effort that was heading in but the ball was headed over and out for a corner. St Blazey forced corner after corner but just couldn’t score. Cadbury Heath then broke away and made it 3v0. A simple long ball over the top and a ball across the middle meant the game was up. Another new signing James Baker came on and gave St Blazey a lift. St Blazey didn’t give up and pulled a scrappy goal back when the ball was finally bundled over into the roof of the net by Ryan Howe. Then with minutes to go a hopeful ball into the box was spilled by the Cadbury Heath goalkeeper and left player manager Morgan a chance but his turn and shot was blazed over the bar. The referee blew for full time and St Blazeys vase dream was over and will have to wait at least another year.

After the game, something you dont see at many grounds id imagine, the stands have metal shutters locked to prevent any damage. The advertising boards are taken down and locked away inside the lockable dug outs and goal posts and nets all removed and locked away. Anything to prevent needless vandalism.

Full Time. Cadbury Heath 3v1 St Blazey.
