The Heath were unlucky not to come away from Bitton with what would have been a deserved 3 points after a superb battling performance in a Boxing Day derby away at Bitton yesterday. On a heavy pitch the Heath settled quicker and playing up the slope we were able to pull together some slick moves on the break with the experienced heads of Simon McElroy, Matt Huxley, Kristian Lee and George Boon knocking the ball around well with the neat stuff with the younger players using their pace well to find space in Bitton's half. The Heath deservedly took the lead in the 27th minute when a George Boon cross found Matt Huxley who directed a superb looping header into the top corner. Bitton equalised with a freak goal in the 35th minute when a free kick from out on the left hand side touchline was launched in the box and managed to find its way into the far side of the goal, with Ollie Jones in the Heath goal unluckily anticipating a touch from the Bitton strikers who couldn't connect with the ball. The teams went in at haltfime with the score at 1-1 but in the 46th minute we re-took the lead when Kristian Lee's long range effort took a deflection and found the corner of the net. The Heath continued to press and Bitton were wasteful with a couple of big chances, but we also missed a couple of big chances when George Boon slid Simon McElroy through on goal who took it round the keeper and shot at goal only to find a defender on the line who cleared his shot. Ben Allen also had a big chance when he headed just wide from a George Boon from the left. Bitton found an equaliser (that didn't look like it was coming) in the 86th minute when a crossed ball found its way through the Heath penalty area and a Bitton strike found the far corner of the net. An entertaining game and a great result for the Heath at the end of the day in what was an excellent perfomance from the lads from everyone, but a special shout has to go to the back four (Ask Kendall, Matt Binding, Nathan Hewitt and Harry Goldspink) as well as Joe Woodley in midfield for some superb dominant defending during the game - well done lads!
Our next game is away to Hallen on Sat 4th January.
UP THE HEATH!
