Cadbury Heath 0 - 6 Shepton Mallet

The Heath got their Western League Premier Division campaign off to a tough start going down 6-0 at home to an excellent Shepton Mallet team. There were a number of Heath debutants in the side with Jordan Schofield (in goal), Junathain Walker (central midfield), Joe Smith (central midfield) and Dean Preddie (forward) all making their first starts alongside the returning Tom Smallman (right back), Dan Winstone (left back), Ash Kendall (central defender and Captain), Ewan McMillan (central defender), Lewis Saunders (central midfielder), Josh Williams (forward) and Brae Williams (striker).
The first half was dominated by the visitors who went in 4-0 up at the break. They opened the scoring after 3 mins and 14 minutes later the Heath were temporarily reduced to 10 men for 10 minutes when left back Dan Winstone was sun-binned for dissent. Shepton extended their lead in the 26th minute from the penalty spot when Joe Smith was adjudged to have pulled the shirt of a Shepton forward. That lead was extended to 3-0 in the 40th minute and the visitors scored again right on halftime through an own goal when a Ewan McMillan back pass into the middle of the penalty area rolled into the net with Heath keeper Jordan Schofield on the corner of his box. The Heath had it all to do in the 2nd half but Shepton extended their lead to 5-0 in the 55th minute when a penalty was awarded after a foul by Ash Kendall, the penalty was well saved by Jordan Schofield but a Shepton player got to the ball first and fired home. It was 6-0 in the 78th minute after a long range effort found the top corner.
We’re back in action on Wednesday evening (4th August) when we play Clevedon Town away in the league, kick off at 7.30pm. We’re then back at Springfield next Saturday (7th August) when we entertain namesakes Flackwell Heath from the Midland League in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. Please support the lads.
