A newly formed Caithness U15 Girls team made the trip across to Kirkwall

A newly formed Caithness U15 Girls team made the trip across to Kirkwall for a game against the local U15 side. Both teams had a good mixture of experienced and new players and so promised to be close from the first whistle.
Captain Rhiannon Kirk won the decisive toss up with the greens to kick first. Following a slightly shaky start from the girls, who were playing together for the first time ever far less in a competitive match, they conceded 2 tries to Orkney. Not to be disheartened they answered this with tries from Katie Mackay and Jade Mackay.
A short break in play gave the girls time to refocus on tactics and they continue to fight on scoring 2 more tries in as many minutes by Shannon Campbell and Rhiannon Kirk respectively.
Coming into the last third of the match the girls were confident and had displayed some fantastic supportive work as well as a few bone rattling tackles from Laura Henderson. Unfortunately Orkney were using their full bank of substitutes and had players coming on with fresh legs compared to the smaller Green's squad of 16.
Rhiannon Kirk scored another try in the last third but this was retaliated by 2 scores from the Orcadians bringing the final score to Caithness 31-34 Orkney.
The girls put in a brave performance, with some girls such as Vicki Dunnet, Jodie Dunnet and Leslie Christie contributing well and making their debut onto the team, they are now keen to get back into training to prepare for the upcoming home match against Orkney.
