Update on plans for getting back on the pitch

As the summer progresses, the coaching team have been reviewing Government guidance and making plans for our return to hockey. Coordinated by Neil Allan, we have options developed to allow us to get back on the pitch safely, in line with Scottish Hockey's Covid-19 Phase 3 Guidance.

Our aspiration was to get youth hockey and senior hockey started in line with our normal dates i.e. August.

However, we have two significant restrictions to consider.

The first and most significant restriction is access to Meggetland. Edinburgh Leisure have written to all clubs indicating Meggetland is unlikely to open before the end of August. In addition, pitch allocations may be rationed as community access to high school facilities in Edinburgh will not be before the end of October. This may create extra demand from other hockey clubs for slots at Meggetland.

The second restriction is Government health guidance and the related limits to the numbers of players on a pitch at any time. Although we are in a good position for our younger players, there will remain challenges for adult hockey until we get to Covid-19 Phase 4. We are hopeful for positive news in early August and that sportscotland and Scottish Hockey will be able to update their guidance, giving us more flexibility.

We will actively engage with Scottish Hockey, East District and Edinburgh Leisure to get everybody back to hockey as quickly as safely possible.

Please enjoy the summer holidays and be assured that we are beavering away in the background, determined to get us all back together as soon as we can.

I'll update you as soon as we get more information.

Stay safe

Club President
