The 1s faced a critical game at the bottom of the table against Granite City. With only 12 player making the journey, were was certainly cause for concern that this may not go our way.
At the start we outlined 3 aims for the game:
1. Win the first quarter;
2. Win a short in each quarter;
3. Have more possession than the opposition.
From the first 5 minutes it was clear this was our game to win. There was a fantastic tempo and desire from the team to play our best hockey. Many chances were made, but it seemed the forwards had a hockey-ball sized hole in their stick!
End of quarter 3, the game is 0-0. After a non-PG motivational speech from Cuan about checking for your balls, we went and scored a great attacking goal, with the finish from Martin B. The final 10 minutes was a game of deep defense, heart-pounding attacks to get that second goal, and definitely some time wasting.
Highlight of the game was when the umpire blew for full time just after we won a short corner...!!!
Man of the match to Eric Briton, 59 years young and keeping their Right Winger in his back pocket all match - I hope you returned him at the end of the game.
Huge thanks to all the boys that made the journey, WHAT A GAME!
P.S. incase you're wondering, we didn't actually compete any of our aims... lol
