Mitch magic seals first home win under the lights for The Boars

Eversley & California 1–0 Abbey Rangers

Combined Counties Premier South – Tuesday 21st October 2025
The Boars Den, Eversley

Eversley & California earned a hard-fought three points on Tuesday evening at The Boars Den, defeating Abbey Rangers 1–0 thanks to a composed finish from joint-manager Mitch Cooper midway through the second half.

The Boars had to weather plenty of pressure in the opening 45 minutes, with Abbey creating the better of the first-half chances. A point-blank header just before the break looked destined for the net, but goalkeeper Josh Selby produced an outstanding reflex save to keep the scores level.

Eversley’s best opportunity of the first half fell to Cally Samuel-Harman, whose powerful strike cleared the bar after a promising attack down the right-hand side.

After the restart, The Boars began to grow in confidence and dictate more of the play. The breakthrough came in the 67th minute, when a Ross Baker free-kick was cleverly whipped into the feet of Mitch Cooper, who lifted the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper and into the bottom corner, his first goal of the season and a moment of real composure in a tight contest.

The Abbey pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, forcing another excellent save from Selby, but Eversley stood firm and managed the game with real discipline. Late introductions from Francis Sey and Henry Vermeulen injected fresh energy, while Joe Pantony, brought on deep into stoppage time, made a vital clearance in the final moments to preserve the lead.

Vermeulen twice found himself through on goal but couldn’t quite convert as The Boars held on through eight minutes of added time to secure a deserved and hard-earned win.

A determined, organised and spirited performance capped by a clean sheet, exactly the kind of display the team has been building towards.
