Boars battle back for a point at Knaphill

Eversley & California produced a spirited second-half comeback to earn a 2–2 draw away at Knaphill FC on Saturday afternoon, showing great resilience and togetherness after a difficult opening period at Redding Way.

The Boars found themselves two goals down inside the opening 20 minutes as the hosts took advantage of a bright start. Knaphill went ahead in the 11th minute when a corner wasn’t cleared and their captain smashed home from close range. Nine minutes later, good play down the right resulted in a low cross and a simple finish at the back post from Thomas Harland-Goddard to double the lead.

Knaphill continued to apply pressure, forcing three excellent point-blank saves from goalkeeper Josh Selby, two before the break and one immediately after half-time, as Eversley clung on to stay in the contest. The home side even struck the post before Eversley’s determination began to turn the tide.

On the hour mark, George Weir replaced the injured Ciaran Carolan, and just two minutes later, Eversley found a lifeline. Captain Ross Baker switched play to Ollie Noyes, who crossed first time into the box. After Jordi Ebanda’s header wasn’t cleared, Noyes continued his run and tucked the loose ball home to make it 2–1.

The Boars’ task became even tougher in the 82nd minute when substitute Francis Sey was shown a straight red card following an off-the-ball altercation in front of the Knaphill dugout.

Despite being down to ten men, Eversley refused to give up, and were rewarded just two minutes later. A deep free-kick from Ross Baker was met by Mitch Cooper, whose header caused chaos before Ollie Noyes smashed the ball into the roof of the net to complete his brace and level the match at 2–2.

It was a performance full of fight and character from Eversley, who showed real heart to come back from two goals down and claim a valuable point away from home.
