Match report prepared by Chanpreet.
Riding high on their excellent win in the season opener, Caltech hosted another friendly game with UCLA at El Monte Cricket Ground on Feb 15th. Caltech won the toss and elected to bat first. Sumanth, who made a come back to the team after almost two years opened the innings with Yashwanth but the openers didn’t last long. Samarth produced a replay of the last game and bowled Yashwanth out with an inswinger. Nachiket and Rahil batted carefully but the latter departed in the seventh over taking Caltech’s total to 19/3. UCLA brought their spinner Kulveer into attack in the eighth over and Caltech batsmen struggled to counter his deceptive bowling and succumbed to a paltry 61 in the seventeenth over. Kulveer ended up bagging 6 wickets and is going to be bragging about it for a while. Sumit as usual was witnessing the falling of wickets at the other end and must have missed his partner Shashank from the last game. Sumit ended up being the top scorer for Caltech with extras being the second highest contributor to the total. Defending just 61 is never an easy job but when you think about it, there’s nothing quite like a cricketing batting collapse and Caltech bowling has done it in the past. Kulveer and Sahil opened the innings for UCLA but lost their first wicket in the form of Kulveer, thanks to an excellent catch by Suraj. With a required run rate of around 2, UCLA never felt like in a rush after the loss of this wicket and the duo of Sahil and Nihar got them through without much trouble. A game that was supposed to last thirty overs per side was wrapped up within a total of thirty for both. Kulveer was the man of the match for his excellent spell that skewed the whole game in UCLA’s favor.
Vignesh continuing his deceptive and exceptional bowling, Chanpreet hitting powerful shots like never before are quite few positives for the team.
