“It was a spell dreams are made of”
So the chairman accepted a challenge from St Marys Church to a T20 fixture which took place this week. CTYFC had so many players that the chairman was dropped and took up arms for the Church side.
CTYFC batted first and were soon in trouble when the Chairman came onto bowl his mystery spin which accounted for a number of CTYFC players, well 2 to be precise. Some lusty hitting from ex youths Funnell and Alexander saw CTYFC up to a respectable 112 off their 20 overs on a pitch that looked more like an allotment.
The church went into bat and were up with the run rate as the opener took apart anything before he was forced to retire. The game changed though when Worsencroft was bought on and bowled with pace, bounce and hostility. At the other end FVC (Former Vice Chairman)Worsencroft Senior was also bought onto bowl and his guile and experience accounted for 5 of the Church batsmen virtually winning the game on his own. Despite some aggressive and instinctive batting from the chairman the church side fell a few runs short of their target.
It was a fun evening and thanks to all the players that represented CTYFC, all of whom I may add had connections with the club. Biggest thanks to Mike Russo though who was the only one to wear proper T20 clothing !
