Malcolm "Honkey Tonk" Tonkin

Ian Coulson22 Feb - 19:50

Club legend, Malcolm Tonkin, has passed away, aged 81.

It is with immense sadness that we mark the passing of Malcolm Tonkin, known affectionately to his many friends as "Honkey Tonk."

For over 50 years, Malcolm was the very heart and soul of Camborne RFC, a true stalwart whose tireless dedication touched every corner of our club.

From the juniors to the seniors, from the clubhouse to the touchline, Malcolm's unwavering commitment ensured that all sections of Camborne RFC benefitted from his selfless efforts. He was the embodiment of club spirit, a man who gave his time and energy without hesitation, always with a smile and a helping hand.

His optimistic spirit was a constant source of inspiration, a beacon of positivity that uplifted everyone around him. Lately, his voice became synonymous with the club, resonating across BBC Cornwall and through the PA system at matches, bringing the passion of Camborne RFC to a wider audience.

President Bill Hussey recalls the huge contribution that Malcom made to the development of the Club over many years. Roles that ranged from manning the Scoreboard, getting to grips with the RFU’s new and recalcitrant Game Management System (GMS), Radio commentator and most importantly his role as Club Secretary. A man definitely, goodthroughout!

His loss will be felt keenly across his family and the entire Camborne RFC community. We have lost not just a volunteer, but a friend, a mentor, and a true legend of our club.

Our thoughts are with those closest to him at this incredibly difficult time.

Funeral details will be shared in due course.
