Camborne laid the ghost of last weeks heavy loss to rest by proving they know how to overcome student opposition this afternoon at the REC when they defeated 5th place Exeter Uni.

In a match played in some testing conditions the hosts ran in five tries but to be honest it could and probably should have been more had the offside law be applied more stringently.

As you would expect the home pack dominated proceedings in the scrum for the majority of the game and that despite starting without some of their big forwards. The visitors had no answer to Camborne's power in the first half but did come more into the game midway through the second.

After going 3 - 0 down early in match the Cherry & Whites took control and went into the break with a 19 - 3 advantage but would have been disappointed not to have secured a try bonus point when they had what looked a good try chalked off in the final play of the half.

The second half saw Camborne come out gate flying and spent 5 minutes camped in the Uni 22 but an interception and 90mtr run, from a player who certainly looked to be offside, saw the students narrow the deficit to 19 -8.

Camborne responded with more pressure on the Uni line which led to a yellow card for the visitors. The hosts bagged their bonus point try after this to move the score on to 26 - 8.
More home pressure saw Uni pick up their second yellow when a Camborne player was brought down without the ball after chipping through with the line at his mercy, much to the annoyance of the crowd a penalty try was not awarded. Although Exeter only had 13 on the pitch for 5 minutes the hosts were unable to capitalise on this as the visitors raised their game and enjoyed a purple patch which led to them scoring once they had a full compliment on the field.

But apart from a long range penalty from Uni the final 15 minutes was all Camborne and only some excellent defence prevented from making the score more comprehensive, but they crossed for a fifth try to take the score to 33 - 18.

The near 500 crowd at the REC today took the total to 6,000 so far this season. This is something the players really appreciate and makes a big difference when the chips are down, so a big thank you to all who've got behind the club each week.
