Reserves battle back to claim draw
Reserves come from 2 down to claim draw...and it could have been more
A 6.15pm kick-off on a Tuesday night at Ashdon Villa; not the easiest game to organise players for or get to. That was evident with two of the starting line-up arriving less than 20 minutes before the planned start, eventually finding the dry pitch in a pretty much hidden location. We were bolstered by two first-teamers joining us
Team: Alex ©, Ryan, Hilaire, Matt, Csaba, Elliott, Jonny P (1), Baz, Suki (1), Rob, Scott
Subs: Kendal, Stuart, Sharkey
A limited warm-up and rush to get ready for kick-off was evident as we started slow and struggled to get into the game for the two first 20 minutes. Some sloppy play gifted a tricky Ashdon even more chances than the ones they created from good football and soon they had a 2 - 0 lead. After a few strong words, some committed tackles, and reverting back to a 4-2-3-1 formation from 4-4-2, we are started to get a foot in the game and ended the half on top but without quite scoring.
The improved play and dominance continued in the second half as Jonny P and Baz picked out the passes unleashing Elliott and Suki on the wings and great hold-up play from Scott supporting Rob up front. A great move down the right and ball played across the box saw Suki half the deficit on his debut for the club. The game was then level after a push in the box allowed Jonny P to convert his second penalty in a matter of games.
We continued putting the pressure on Ashdon forcing some last-ditch tackles, bringing on fresh legs to help be in the ascendency, but unable to claim a match-winner that would have been deserved...but did not look likely after the first 20 minutes.
A well-earned point and more importantly an impressive fight back, which would have likely been a heavy defeat last season!
