Reserves hit 6 in comfortable win over Sawston

Reserves claim 6 - 2 victory at home, earning revenge for defeat back in September

After another Saturday without football last weekend, our away game at Buckden postponed due to the weather conditions, it was good to return to action with a home match against Sawston Rovers. Playing a team below us in the league was a great chance to earn three points and build momentum before our cup semi-final at Bar Hill next weekend. Baz and Martin were away; and a couple of late changes saw Jamie and Macca named on the bench as part of the strong squad this week...

Team: Luca, Ryan, Kenny, Csaba, Jack, Jun, Cameron B, Josh ©, Sefa, Callum, Scott
Subs: Cam R, Andoni, Rob, Jamie, Macca

We started the game with a sloppy couple of minutes, giving the ball away easily and conceding two corners, which quickly changed when we opened the scoring through Scott on 7 minutes. In the space of 13 further minutes, our lead extended to 4 - 0 as Josh, Callum and Sefa all got on the scoresheet. Josh finished well when through one-on-one after fine attacking play only moments after Sefa's penalty miss. Callum scored on the rebound from Cameron's strike, and Sefa finished well into the bottom corner.

We took our foot off the gas from here until half-time, allowing Sawston a bit of impetus and hope they could get back into the game, as we were sloppy in possession giving the ball away far too easily. Our opponents pulled a goal back on 30 minutes as their striker had the time to finish well past Luca. The break came at the right time for us to put a halt on our ragged nature, and re-assess the situation.

After a good talking to from Jamie and positive conservations at half-time, we came out with renewed vigour in the search of putting the game to bed. A few minutes in Cameron beat the left back and slotted the ball in under the keeper to make it 5 - 1. The game became a bit end-to-end, while we mainly remained on top, Scott earning a booking for shooting long after the whistle was blown, before Rob came on wide right replacing the impressive Cameron.

Sawston got their second after a powerful header into the corner, although their man was offside which was flagged but overruled by the ref. Sefa scored his second of the game, shortly after being booked in defending Josh who was scythed down late once again, to extend our lead to 4 before being withdrawn for Doni.

We were the team on top as we saw out the game comfortably, playing the ball around for large parts searching for an opening or trying to create one. A 6 - 2 win is impressive, with another 3 points earned.

We moved up to 10th in the Senior B with an eye on claiming 9th from Ashdon Villa who are only 2 points ahead and we have 3 games in hand. This win, revenge for a 3 - 2 defeat to Sawston earlier in the season, made it only 2 defeats in 12 as our strong run of form continued, and was the perfect tonic for our cup semi-final at unbeaten Bar Hill next week...
