Saturday 10th September 2016.
Cornwall Tribute League.
Helston v Camelford - Helston Home Win.

Cricket, Weddings and Injuries.
Despite having their playing squad ravaged by Cricket, Weddings and Injuries, plus retirements, the Ford (as they always do) honoured this league fixture at Helston. Camelford made the 120 mile round trip to Helston with only 13 players; this included only one recognised back. By borrowing a few Helston vets Camelford had to concede a “Home Win” to Helston, but gave them a friendly game anyway. With so many players in very unfamiliar positions Camelford were always going to be defeated on this gorgeous sunny day.
The gods of rugby definitely deserted The Ford as with only 48 seconds registered by the referee, Matthew Etherington dislocated his knee. This led to a 40 minute wait whilst the ambulance to collect the stricken second row. On the restart Helston were easily able to get the better of Camelford and played some excellent Carnival type rugby. They ran in 8 tries, 5 of which were converted, to please a large home crowd.
The final score of 48 points to nil has little relevance except that Helston were given a game and were able to put into practice what they had trained for. They finished the afternoon with the “Home Win” result in the league table and Camelford returned home to lick their wounds and prepare for the rest of the season. With the cricket and wedding season coming to a close they should soon be back to strength. Hopefully the injury curse will ease, they lost 2 players in last week’s fixture; one with a broken wrist and one with damaged ankle ligaments.
Credit has to go to Camelford who have pledged to honour all fixtures and were prepared to make the long trip to Helston so that the home side could have a game of rugby. The Ford players were greatly affected by the 48second injury but none-the-less worked hard to provide some opposition for Helston.
