Best moves, performance and passing of the season

Overnight rain ensured that it was boggy under foot in otherwise perfect conditions for a morning's rugby as Camelot Under 12's were joined by a number of Under 11 players for a combative fixture with Hertford. Both clubs had a good number of players available enabling A and B fixtures to be played simultaneously with sufficient substitutes available for both games.

For the B team it was another step up in performance levels, playing with huge confidence and boosted by the energy and good understanding of the Under 11 representatives. However, it was Ben who opened the scoring after a good passing move reached him 8 metres out, the passing stopped and Ben powered his way through a gap to make it 1-0.

From that moment on, there was no stopping Camelot as they dominated in every department. James B showed great skill to make it 2-0 and then Eddie drove over the line for three before another Under 11, Alex M, opened his account with a good run out wide. 4-0, less than ten minutes played, and Hertford heads were already starting to drop...but it got even worse before the interval.

U11 Ben Garman nipped in for a quick score before Conor, who hassled away at defenders all game, made it 6-0 with a score just before the interval.

In truth the second-half was a little scrappy. With the result in the bag Camelot lost a bit of cohesion, started to make a few silly handling mistakes and were not as focused as in the first period. That said, they were still resolute in defence and never looked like conceding as Ben scored his second of the match with another powerful run and George combined his strength with pace to score on the wing and complete an emphatic victory for Camelot.

FT: Camelot 8-0 Hertford
Tries: Ben 2, Conor, George, Eddie, Ben G, Alex M, James B

After a short break and a chance to freshen up, lick wounds and identify areas of improvement, the two sides met for a re-match and a chance for Hertford to seek some sort of reward for their efforts...but it was not to be.

Right from the start the visitors were under pressure. Ben took a quick free-kick, gained several yards before popping the ball out to Alex for an easy score. And it was Alex again who doubled the lead with a try on the wing, before another Under 11, Ben G, scored his second of the day as Camelot raced into a 3-0 lead. But still they did not let up.

Dithering near his own try line a Hertford player had the ball stolen out of his hands by Conor who flung himself over the line Ashton-esque and then Ben Garman scored another to make it 5-0 as the referee diplomatically brought the half to an early close.

Whereas Camelot lost their way a bit in the second-half of the first match, there was no sign of that this time as Conor again stole the ball from an indecisive defender before whipping it out to George on the wing who darted to the try line to score the first of what was to become a 3-minute hat-trick at the start of the half. George's second was the end product of an excellent passing move whilst his third, that made it 8-0, involved running almost the entire length of the field, fending off several defenders en route to the try line - Another excellent finish.

By now it was a rout, but still Hertford worked hard in defence. A series of Camelot free-kicks saw Conor and then Ben both have a couple of attempts to power over the line before opting for a passing move which enabled Alex to find the space to score. Double figures were reached moments later...To be honest, the identity of the Under 11 scorer eluded our roving reporter as he landed the ball over the line from amidst a pile of players. A good run out and an interesting comparison to mix up the team with younger players, but ultimately the combined efforts of the Camelot Under 11's and Under 12's was far too strong for the opposition on the day.

FT: Camelot 10-0 Hertford
Tries:Conor, George 3, Alex 3, Ben G 2
Game 1 v Hertford As
On a muddy Sunday morning we welcome 2 teams from Hertford RFC. We have a big squad this morning as our numbers are swelled by the inclusion of several Camelot U11 guests.
With two pitches available (great news for the dog poo squad!) we are able to run A and B fixtures. Game one for the As kicks off and our first attack is rewarded with a try down the right side for Dan after assists from James N and Oli. This sets the tone for the first half with our guys playing some good rugby, moving the ball well from left to right despite the difficult conditions. Our good work is rewarded when Ivan (U11) accepts the ball and after a powerful run scores in the left corner, 2-0. Soon after, captain James I makes it 3-0 with a trademark surge across the line. So the halt time whistle is blown, it's 3-0 to Camelot and Hertford have not been in our half of the pitch, choosing to 'receive' after each of our scores.
The second half starts and to their credit the Hertford boys continue to work hard nullifying our attack for the first few minutes although never looking like scoring themselves. The second half deadlock is eventually broken by an opportunist try from Caolan who steals the ball to score in the right corner to make it 4-0. The games is then quickly killed-off by Ivan who scores 2 more from similar surging runs to make the final score 6-0.
Ivan 3
James I
After a 10 minute break game 2 gets underway. Despite the one-sided first encounter, Hertford are far from beaten and they continue to work hard and nullify our attacks in the first 5 minutes. It's a physical encounter but we are certainly up for that sort of challenge these days and our determination is rewarded when another U11 guest, Daniel J, breaks the deadlock with a typical scrum half short burst across the line. Half time and it's 1-0 to Camelot. We continue to press in the second half and Dan scores another down the right side after a great run from Edward. Hertford then manage to score down our right side to close the gap - 2-1. Any thoughts of a Hertford win are soon quashed however when Dan scores again to make it 3-1, this time after an assist from Fred. Seb then gets on the score sheet after a good dive at the feet of the defence to make the final score 4-1, although this is after some great defensive work from our boys (and daisy) in the last 5 minutes when, to their credit, the Hertford team continue to press.
Final score 4-1 to Camelot.
Daniel 1
Dan 2
Seb 1
So two games with an aggregate score of 10-1 but in terms of physicality it was a much tougher test which our guys passed very successfully.
