Tents up, mascot at the ready festivals here we come !! Mixed teams steam roll Bedford.

A predominantly sunny morning with a bitterly cold wind provided the backdrop for a tough morning's rugby for the kids, and a dummy run of setting up the festival gazebo's for the parents - both activities ultimately proving successful.

For Team X (?), aka Max' Moustachio's, it all started with a bruising encounter against a Bedford side that were physically strong (despite no real big players), but did not handle the ball as well as the Camelot side.

It was end to end without any real scoring chances until late in the first half Seb broke free with the ball, embarked on a long run without being caught to score the opening try. 1-0. After the break it was an equally tough encounter with some good solid tackling from Byron, Caolan and Matthew keeping the visitors at bay. Unfortunately the pressure from Bedford did eventually pay-off as they ran home a second-half equaliser, which proved to be the only other score of the match.
FT: Camelot 1-1 Bedford, Seb

Game two got off to a shocking start with Bedford rattling in two early scores to put Camelot on the back foot. Things got worse when the Moustachio's ran out of substitutes with Daisy and Charlie being ruled out, and then another try conceded soon after the break to make the score 0-3. It needed something special to get back in the game, and it nearly came in the shape of the Edward show.

First- up Edward broke loose down the left wing to run home a try, moments later he again out-paced the opposition defence to run home a similar try, this time scoring down the right wing. With the score now at 2-3, Camelot were getting on top and it seemed only a matter of time before the equaliser would come.

It looked like it might come when Ben went on a run that saw him break through the defence, only for the referee's whistle to mysteriously blow for what was later described as an offence against Caolan because "it looked like he was going to body check the player"! That decision seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side, they never really looked like scoring again and it was "game over" when Bedford broke free to score a fourth.
FT Camelot 2-4 Bedford, Edward 2

The final match saw Camelot dominate from start to finish, despite Caolan joining the crocked list for much of the match, which meant a return to action for Charlie as the team battled against the odds to rattle up a comfortable half-time lead.

First Edward broke clear to score and then twice Seb proved unstoppable as he pounced on loose balls to run home two tries to make the score 3-0 at the break.

The second-half was less convincing, but the visitors never really threatened as Jack, Byron and Matthew continued to pound their way through the middle with Ollie gaining ground with powerful runs - but still they could not find their way to another try. Instead, against the run of play, Bedford broke down the wing to score what proved to be little more than a consolation - Any fears of a comeback were immediately wiped away when Edward again created the space to score his second of the match.
FT Camelot 4-1 Bedford, Seb 2, Edward

The performances probably deserved more than the won one, drew one and lost one outcome, but the team work, sometimes excellent passing and support play in the rucks and mauls further highlighted the progress being made by the team. Man of the Match this week went to Byron for his all round tackling and involvement through the middle of the pitch.

The first match for Toms Tigers got off to a brisk start with James isaacs scoring a try down the right hand side after a determined run. Freddie soon made it 2-0 with a trade mark side-step. By now the whole team was performing well with good ball retention, mauling and solid tackling. This tackling helped create a third score for the Tigers when James Isaacs made a crunching tackle which forced the Bedford player to drop the ball. James Norman was quickly on to the loose ball and over the line. This sparked a small revival from Bedford (actually not a bad side but in this match our boys were on-song!) who scored a good try to reduce the deficit to two. Before half time however Thomas scored a great fourth to make it 4-1. The 2nd half started well for the opposition with the lead reduced to 4-2. An unstoppable run from James Isaacs restored the three try lead and then a great move down the right between Freddie and Thomas increased the lead further with Freddie finishing a the move. A closing try from James Norman saw the game end with a very well deserved victory - 7-2 and a great team performance.

FT Camelot 7-2 Bedford, James I 2, James N 2, Freddie & Thomas

Game 2

Off to a flying start in the 2nd match when Freddie was half tackled but quick thinking saw him make the line for a 1-0 lead. Thomas powered his way over for 2-0 followed by a try from a stronger Bedford team - 2-1. Thomas scored again but the opposition didn't give up and got back to 3-2 before Freddie went over to win the match 4-2.

FT Camelot 4-2 Bedford, Freddie 2, Thomas 2

Game 3

A bit of a scrappy start to match 3 but after some pressure the Tigers took the lead after some determined play from Thomas and Connor with Connor getting the final touch - 1-0. Two quick try's from James Norman saw our boys hold a 3-0 lead at half time. The second half was tighter with Bedford scoring two trys but these were countered by scores from Freddie and James Norman to ensure the Tigers maintained their 100% record for the day. Final score 5-2.

FT Camelot 5-2 Bedford, Connor, Freddie & James N 3.

A fantastic performance from Toms Tigers - great ball handling, mauling, rucking and tackling - a terrific team display from all with Thomas winning Player of the Week for his tremendous tackling, running and try scoring, well done Thomas!
