Camelot Knights win League & Cup double again

Camelot 2nds beat Old Albanian 4th 57 - 12 in Herts. Merit Cup Final

A hat-trick from left-winger Barry Matthews helped Hemel Hempstead's second team to a league and cup double at Bishops Stortford on Saturday.

Three weeks after celebrating winning the Herts Merit Table 3 championship, they stormed to a nine-try victory over Old Albanians 4ths in the final of the cup competition.

Camelot were four tries up within 20 minutes after Jack Church opened the scoring with a burst through the OAs defence. Matthews then scored twice as Camelot launched attacks from deep in their own half. Further touchdowns from Jamie Allen, Tristan Bond and captain Sam Aitken, put Camelot 38-0 up before OAs got on the scoresheet as half time arrived.

In the second half, OAs tightened up their game, using their forwards to keep Camelot working hard. On 65 minutes they scored a pushover try, giving them a glimmer of hope at 38-12. Then Camelot switched on the afterburners. Tries for Barry Thorne, Matthews and Tom Wilcox, plus six conversions from full back Conor Flannery, meant the cup was coming to Hemel Hempstead.
