The eagerly anticipated second outing of the Hemel 3rd XV / social side, will get underway at Chaulden Lane this Saturday afternoon, when they take to the field to face a mixed side of Tring 4th XV / “Occasionals” at 2pm.
Having learned lessons from October’s game against the Aylesbury “Fat Lads”, when the home side were unable to replace injuries sustained in the warm-up (including several savage moob-strains suffered just putting the shirts on), the Hemel team have decided to bring along some subs this week!
Saturday’s 27-man squad includes 4 players who are brand new to rugby alongside many familiar faces from bygone seasons and we also welcome along our friends Gideon, Jordan and Phillipe from Old Millhillians RFC who also fancied a run out.
The Hemel game plan is likely to focus on a bit less camping in their own 22, seeing off the dog-walkers exercising in the opposition half and actually scoring some points! The main challenge tomorrow is likely to be the weather – with overcast conditions threatening Hemel’s half-time BBQ, it will be important to get scores on the board before the home teams fly-half gets too soggy and goes home!
The purpose of these matches is to help resurrect social rugby after the enforced absence, by creating a platform to encourage both new and returning players, which may then feed into our 1st / 2nd XVs or even birth a revitalised competitive 3rd XV in a season or two’s time.
This is the only match for Hemel Seniors this weekend and will be followed by England v New Zealand (KO 5.30pm) shown in the clubhouse and all are welcome to come along and watch.
If anyone has a spare pair of size 9 or size 11 boots - please bring them
