Julie Nicholas sends you an important message.

If home isn’t safe you can leave to get help

Another lockdown, another stay at home message - but if home doesn’t feel safe, we want you to know you can always leave and help is available.

There’s a lot of pressure on everyone right now, from lack of childcare to financial worries and loneliness.

This will lead to people feeling stressed and in some cases angry. If you don’t feel safe at home, if you are worried someone may hurt you or is trying to control you, you don’t have to live with it.

As the prime minister said in his lockdown speech, if you need to leave your house to escape an abusive situation, you are allowed to do so. If you need to go somewhere, local refuges are open and are taking people in.

We know not everyone is comfortable talking to the police. While we are always here to help, there are several charity organisations across Solihull, you might prefer talk to.

We know women, men and members of our LGBTQ+ communities suffer domestic abuse. The National Domestic Abuse Helpline is there to support everyone – you can call them on 0808 2000 247.

If you are worried about your own safety or the safety of a member of your family, a friend or neighbour, get in touch with us. If someone is in immediate danger and their life is threatened, call 999 and we will get officers to them as soon as possible.

If you can’t talk out loud, you can always Live Chat via our website
https://west-midlands.police.uk/

We have specially trained officers who can provide support and practical assistance and help keep you safe.

Below are some of the charities and organisations that provide help and support to people in Solihull. For a full list visit: NO EXCUSE FOR ABUSE
