Stockwood Ladies 15 - 38 Rugby Lionesses

Jessica Ham, Michelle Jennings, Hannah Wilson and Zubie Luff kindly loaned themselves to the Rugby Lionesses to help them field a team against Stockwood Ladies.

For both teams it was their first league fixture of the season and even though the match was played with 12 players on each side with uncontested scrums it did not curb the excitement. The Lionesses had clearly been training hard throughout pre-season displaying strength in their forwards and pace in their backs.

The first try came from the back of the scrum with Michelle Jennings feeding the Lionesses Fly Half who passed the ball to Jessica Ham running a pace past the last defender to score under the posts. Another display of immaculate handling and passing between Michelle Jennings at Scrum Half and the Lionesses Fly Half and Full Back gave Jessica Ham an easy ball to score the second try.

Before half time Stockwood's speedy Full Back made a break to get some points on the board for the home team.

Michelle Jennings was finally rewarded for her hard work with a score under the posts to make the score 19 - 5 at the half time whistle. Hannah Wilson and Zubie Luff proved a combination to be reckoned with putting in endless tackles and driving the ball forward when the Lionesses were in possession.

Whilst the scrums were uncontested the Lionesses found Stockwoods forwards strong in open play resulting in a number of driving mauls from both sides. Lionesses Number 8 and Captain utilised a number of pick and go's from the back of the scrum and with Michelle Jennings in support this helped the Lionesses gain valuable yards into Stockwoods territory.

Jessica Ham scored two further tries in the second half as a result of quick ball out of the scrum and space opened up by the Fly Half allowing her to run down the right for one and cut back inside for the other.

Before the full time whistle Stockwood managed to get past the Lionesses defence on two occasions, much to the delight of their expansive home crowd. The Lionesses finished on a high with a final try for the Fly Half who had been unlucky not to score on previous occasions.
