Midlands Division One West
Bournville 27 - 22 Camp Hill
The more I think about this result , the angrier I get and the reason will soon become clear.
For an hour we seemed to be restricted to the " battle of the boot " as the only scores came from penalties with Bournville's Alex Warner shading it by five kicks to four over our Ian Briggs. (I have to say that the best effort of the nine came from "Briggsy" who landed a beauty from halfway).
After a further ten minutes of the fiercely- contested play we finally made a breakthrough.
Fly half Jim Oliver collected in midfield and chipped a finely weighted kick over the hosts' rearguard for centres "Barney" Edwards and new recruit Jon Ford to chase down.
Jon got there first before nipping over with relish to register his maiden score which was improved by "Briggsy". We held this lead until the 86th minute when Warner collected from a scrum 5 to score and convert to retake the lead for his side at 22 - 19.
Two minutes later "Briggsy" hit another excellent penalty to tie the scores and surely stoppage time was nearly over.
It was in the ninety third minute when the Bournville pack drove over but with Adey Dakers and Rob Obeng-Manu underneath the ball it was not grounded. For some reason the referee thouight otherwise and gave the try to deny us our just desserts of a share of the spoils.
Referees are above criticism we are told so I must say no more.
On Saturday we entertain Banbury at Haslucks Green Road. Kick Off is at 3.00 p.m.
See you there.
