Midlands Division One West
Camp Hill 47 - 0 Leamington
Clearly lifted by their first win the week before , Leamington gained useful possession and battled long and hard throughout.
There was , on this occasion however , no answer to the hosts' diligence and determination ( echoing the previous week's Dudley Kingswinford performance ) to record their second win since the season's re-start and biggest since October 2007.
A sixth minute penalty from centre Ian Briggs was followed ten minutes later when lineout ball was swept out to right wing George Wilkinson who evaded several attempted tackles to dot down in the corner.
If Camp Hill expected to dominate the scoring from here they were to be mistaken as the visitors had useful possession throughout the next fifteen minutes but without gaining any reward.
Then suddenly we recorded twenty two points in the final six minutes of the half to really show what we can do.
First it was full back "Barney" Edwards who collected in midfield and charged through to score.
After "Briggsy's" conversion he added his second penalty prior to a concentrated interpassing movement which set up a try for Man - of the - Match Adam Willis.
Our kicker again converted for 25 - 0.
Sixty seconds later and on the stroke of half time we were treated to another quality move ahead of George's collection and score to register our bonus point with another five points.
The following quarter was scoreless and again well-contested but although now kicking against the strongest of breezes we took control again , in the final quater.
"Briggsy" caught a Leamington clearance and made good metres before slipping the ball to his fellow centre Jon Ford. He found No.8 Rob Hill in support and the latter scampered down a clear path to the line for a try , again improved by "Briggsy".
It was then "Barney's" turn to make considerable inroads into the Leamington defence and then he passed inside to flanker Mick Stephens who crashed over in the seventy third minute.
There was just a minute left on the clock when "Barney's" final break and subsequent pass was taken on by "Hillie" to record his second and his fifth of the season.
There really were some excellent tries in this fine display but our thoughts are now concentrated on the re-arranged game at new opponents Worcester Wanderers on Saturday. Kick Off is at 2.15 p.m.
See you there.
