Report from "The Puff"

A disappointing start to the new league campaign for Camps as they came up against a strong young Wolverhampton team who eventually prevailed in a fluctuating game.

After fly half Barney Edwards missed an early penalty the visitors took the lead with a great solo run from number eight Tom Savage.

Camp Hill were quick to respond with a try for winger Rob Freeman after a break and pass from player coach Steven Halbert gave him a clear run to the corner.

Another fine run from winger Freeman resulted in some desperate defence and eventually a yellow card for the visitors but, ironically, it was the home teams indiscipline, which led to them falling further behind. After a penalty against the visitors, in their own 22, was reversed the resultant penalty sent Wolverhampton up to the halfway line and two further infringements ended with an attacking line out five metres out from the Camps line. The visitors made the most of this to record a second converted try.
A penalty from Barney Edwards reduced the deficit to 14- 8 at the break and the fly half then added three further scores to give Camps their first lead of the game.

The first was a penalty kick and then, when another break from Halbert, resulted in a second penalty conceded in the Wolverhampton 22,the quick –thinking fly half took a quick tap and barged his way over the try line before adding the conversion.
A further long-range penalty stretched the Camp Hill lead to 21-14 but when a similar effort fell short, Wolverhampton ran the ball back for an opportunist try in the corner.

The momentum was now all with the visitors and they soon regained the lead with another try in the corner, which was superbly converted from the touchline.

There was still time for the visitors to add another try in the corner to seal victory and deprive Camps of a losing bonus point.
Camp Hill continue their league campaign next Saturday with a home game against newly promoted Handsworth, kick off 3.00pm
