Report by "The Puff"

Camp Hill produced their best display of the season, so far, to brush aside a Kidderminster side that had started the season with 3 wins out of four.

They started slowly; failing to deal with the opening kick-off and conceding a converted try within 2 minutes.

It didn’t take long to get up to speed however and with props Ryan Large and Jan Erik Andersen and number 8 Rob Hill prominent with forceful runs they drew level after 10 minutes. Flanker Harry Cunningham fed a short pass to player coach Stephen Halbert who touched down for a score, which Barney converted.

Camp Hill’s forwards now began to exert pressure and hooker Adam Willis took three consecutive strikes against the head, the third of which, on the opposition 5 metre line led to Rob Hill picking up at the base of the scrum and although he was stopped Cunningham was on hand to score the try.

The home side was also in control of the line out and it was no surprise when skipper Mark Newton won the ball and was driven over for his seventh try of the season.

Although Camps led by 3 tries to 1 and were dominating the set-piece, missed conversions and a penalty conceded in front of their own posts just before the break restricted the lead to 17-10 at half time.

It was the backs who started things rolling in the second half when a long pass from replacement Dan Robinson gave winger Liam Lindsey and centre Mark Lisle the space to take the ball on before feeding the other winger Rob Freeman for an excellent try.

Almost immediately Robinson fielded a punt on halfway and sliced straight through the visitor’s defence, sidestepping the last defender to score a superb solo try under the posts. Barney converted.

Camps were now playing with an intensity that the opposition found irresistible and runs from Lindsey, Cunningham and replacement forward Austin Bolger pinned Kidderminster back on their own line. Largey was unstoppable from a yard out and burst over for his first try of the season.

The visitors were driven straight back again from the kick off and this time it was Austin Bolger, proving more successful as a ball carrier than a line-out jumper, who forced his way over for his first 1st XV try.

The levels of intensity understandably dropped with a 41-10 lead and Kidderminster were able to fashion a consolation try with an excellent handling move.

Fittingly, however, Camps had the final word when another excellent Robinson run and long pass to Liam Lindsey gave the winger the chance to brush aside the full back and score the teams eight and final try in the corner.
