Saturday 26th February 26th

Midlands West One

Camp Hill 34 – 10 Stratford upon Avon

Back at home after two successful weeks on the road, Camps treated the home crowd to another bonus point victory and plenty of excellent rugby.
There could have been a try in the first minute but Briggsy couldn’t quite get the touch on Barney Edwards’s clever kick through. Briggs soon opened Camps’ account, however, with a penalty.

The evenly contested first half was enlivened by two breakaway tries. Camps had to withstand a period of pressure and penalties in their own half before, Briggsy intercepted in his own 22. He fed winger Rob Obeng-Manu and “Banger” outpaced the defence for a try under the post, converted by Briggs.

The pressure and penalties took their toll and the referee handed out yellow cards to Mick Stephens and skipper Pete Koziot.

Stratford took advantage of the two man advantage drawing level with a long range try from speedy winger Jay Kennedy and a conversion and penalty from fly half Jake White.

There was just enough time left in the half for Briggsy to restore the lead with a penalty.

Restored to a full complement of players, Camps dominated the second half with aggressive ball carrying by the forwards and incisive running in the backs. Both props featured prominently, Pete smarting from his enforced rest and “Largey” making the most of his last game before his trip to Oz.

It was a great run from Jan Van Der Walt, however, that gave winger George Wilkinson the chance to go over for a try in the corner. Briggsy continued his fine kicking form, converting from the touchline.
After a further period of pressure, another break from Briggsy gave George another chance and again he finished in fine style for a second converted try.

It was only a matter of time until the bonus point try and it was new boy Luke Creaney, on as a replacement centre, who burst clear for a try on his home debut.

Although the action continued to the end there was no further score but it was a fitting farewell to Largey and Jimmy O.

We wish them all the best on their travels and look forward to welcoming them back sometime in the future.

Next Saturday Camp Hill entertain Old Halesonians in a fourth versus fifth clash at Haslucks Green Road k.o 2.15.
