Report by 'The Puff'

Camp Hill recorded their second consecutive 5-point league victory away from home with a comfortable win at Veseyans. In doing so they cemented fourth spot in the league and, with eight of the remaining twelve league games at home, there is still all to play for.

With the elements in their favour, Camps were soon able to apply some pressure and Mitch Lee, Halbey and Shawn Lindeque combined to take play deep into the Veseyans 22.The home side were only able to repel the attacks by conceding a string of penalties and, eventually, the referee lost patience and showed the home number 8 a yellow card. The numerical superiority soon told with the ball going through hands to find Barney Edwards on his own on the wing for an easy score. The conversion was anything but easy but Ian Briggs made it a 7-point lead.
Camps were soon over the line again after another fine run from Halbey put prop Nick West over only for the referee to rule it out for a forward pass.

Camps efforts were disrupted by the loss of second row Shawn Lindeque and the reshuffle to accommodate replacement number 8 Rob Hunt but they were able to extend the lead with a Briggs penalty on the half hour mark.

A break from scrum-half Lloyd Roberts was carried on by Mark Lisle and after an exchange of passes with Barney the full back stormed over for an excellent try, again converted by Briggs.

Camps, having been a little slow to get into their stride, were now at full throttle and added a third try before the break when centre George Wilkinson took the direct route through his opposite number and over for a try. The inevitable conversion made it 24-0 at the break.
Conditions deteriorated in the second half with heavy squally showers but Camps were positive from the restart and after an excellent run by winger Ben Taylor Camps were able to apply more pressure on the Veseyans line. Scrum pressure and defensive penalties resulted in another yellow card for the home side and Briggsy was able to take advantage with a typical dummy which resulted in a clear run to the line and another 7 points.

With the bonus point in the bag, Camps maybe took their eye off the ball and when they failed to deal with the restart it invited some rare pressure from the home side which they managed to turn into a well worked try in the corner. An excellent conversion made it 31-7.
In the deteriorating conditions it was Camps who had the last word with the industrious Ben Taylor crossing for deserved try. The only surprise was that the conversion did not go over, the only small blot on a fine kicking performance from Briggsy.

The visiting King Cayman awarded the man of the match award to the excellent Halbey but he must have been run close by Briggs and also Lloyd Roberts and second row Gaz Lang who were all outstanding.

Next week it is the last league game of 2018 when we entertain our old friends and rivals Walsall at 2.15.

It is also the Club Christmas Lunch with The Salvation Army Brass Band, so we hope to have a bumper crowd in attendance.
