Report from "The Puff"

The second away league game, which looked, to have been wrapped up by half time slipped away from Camp Hill in the closing minutes.

Things started perfectly for the visitors when prop Tom Fleming went unopposed under the posts from the 22 m line for a try, which Barney Edwards converted. The home side came briefly into the game with an attack that was only stopped by a fine last ditch tackle from full back Jermaine Bernard but Camps recovered quickly and a fine break from Edwards followed by a timely pass sent Jordan Oliver over for a second converted try. The home side scored a try their own, against the run of play, when their fullback burst through the centres for a try that they failed to convert.

Camp Hill were dominating procedures at this stage and straight from the kick-off recovered the ball and following a rolling maul to the line were only thwarted by the home side pulling it down.

From the resultant penalty, a quick tap from Edwards sent winger Liam Lindsey over, untouched. Although the conversion was missed, the fly half made amends with a penalty on the stroke of half time when the referee penalised the home side for some backchat.

A 22-5 half-time lead with the team playing well looked very comfortable.

Unfortunately, appearances can be deceptive and Camps, so disciplined in the first half, gifted the home side a score minutes into the second half with a poor clearance kick, which allowed the opposition to run in a simple try.

This set the tone for the half with poor decision-making and the inability to retain possession of the ball allowing the home side enough ball to get back into the game.

A penalty following the sin binning of centre Rob Freeman reduced the deficit to 22-13 and when the home side followed up with an unconverted try following a maul close to the line, the writing was on the wall.

The visitors were unable to get out of their own half and two further penalties, conceded under the constant pressure, gave them the victory.

Credit to Wolverhampton for a spirited comeback but Camps, who are looking much better than last season, should have closed out the game.
