Camp Hill U11 Defeated At Last But Read On

Camp Hill’s U11’s played magnificently. They ran, tackled, and rucked for all they were worth. Some of their attacking play was a joy to watch once they got over their initial nerves. They never once let their heads drop. They sweated blood to the final whistle. Had they not played so well and with such heart the score would have far greater against them. The played for each other and encouraged each other. Not one of the subs moved away from the side line as often is the case in junior rugby.

They were a team.

I for one was immensely proud of them. They should be proud of themselves too. They were a credit to the Club and the Camp Hill spirit.

The above result relfects the score of both games together. The result of the match against the 1st team was a credible 5 points to 40 given what they were up against. The second match against what appeared to be their 2nd team, was a very close affair with Camp Hill losing 15 points to 20. It would have been a win 15 to 5 had the whistle gone after the agreed 10 mins in each half!

A pitch from the 22 to the opposite 10 meter line i.e. approximately 40 meters wide was by far the widest pitch the players had ever played on. The reason became apparent as soon as the game started. Sils were well drilled in getting the ball out wide where they had fast experienced players. Camp Hill who had some new players on the field, not so well versed in back play, simply ran out of players out wide much of the time and tired legs told.

No doubt the players will learn from the experience. You can only improve by putting yourself against those who are better than you. It should be remembered that when this team were U10's they got thumped by teams such as Bromsgrove who they have now gone on to beat this year. They will have their day against Sils too given their heart and determination.

Player of the Match was Jamie. Sam's comments, "Excellent attacking runs, tackled well and massive improvement in the rucks, really getting stuck in. Really pleased how his game has developed and he has a real passion for it."
