Overall draw against a bigger and meaner opponent.

Last Sunday saw us host a match against Dudley and Kingswinford. Our opponent was bigger, stronger and meaner, but we had true grit on our side and put up a good fight. Our team this week was Toby, Joe, Sam, Ollie, Dylan, James, JJ, Henry and Steven.

Match 1

Camp Hill 2 – 4 Dudley and Kingswinford
We started well with an entertaining rolling manoeuvre from Toby that surprised the opposition and gained us 2m before he was literally sat on. This became a reoccurrence with us gaining ground and then being put on the floor. We had several trys fall just short of the try line and the opposition’s ability to pass out wide and stop our offense dead meant we were 0-3 down at half time. A rallying team talk meant we came out fighting in the second half and thanks to some fearless runs from Ollie and Sam and some fabulous passing from Dylan, Ollie and Steven, we ended the match 2-4 down.

Match 2

Camp Hill 2 – 1 Dudley and Kingswinford
The 2nd game was a much stronger performance. We came out with determination and a refusal to let them get the best of us and proceeded to prove that bigger isn’t always better. Steven’s little legs and amazing turn of speed allowed him to run in not 1 but 2 trys from the half way line and with some fabulous passing out wide from Toby and Ollie, we ended the 1st half 2-0 up. A well-deserved drink and words of encouragement and we were ready for the 2nd half. We intercepted well and showed great strength in tackling with some amazing collaborative tackles from Dylan, James, Ollie, Toby and Steven. We never stopped running and ended the game 2-1 up.

Steven 2

Special mention goes to Sam, who had the best game of the season, he got stuck in and ran straight at the opposition fearlessly. Also to Dylan, who played the entire 2nd game, even though he had a colourful lump on his temple after being stood on at the end of the 1st game.

Comedy Moment

Howard: What’s your name?
Dylan: Dylan
Howard: Where are you?
Dylan: On the floor!

We are at home next week. See you all there.
