Cannington Pavillion Day

Cannington players and supporter(s) mend the home of cricket........

On Sunday 21st February 2016, a select bunch of Cannington players and supporters turned up at Park Lane Pavilion intent on repair and restoration. It is fair to say that selection policy for this band of workers had nothing to do with DIY ability, which was perhaps most accurately portrayed in despatching Cullum on a shopping trip and Will King's technique with a paint brush.

The Plan for the day was simple, empty pavilion, clean pavilion and paint every surface in sight. Following an inspirational team talk from Captain Caswell, which consisted of "just slap some paint on it" the team quickly got to work.

It quickly became apparent that the Pavilion hadn't seen a good lick of Wood Stain in about 10 years, following Will's revelation that he had been forced into child labour at the age of about 12 when painted it previously.

As the before pictures show the pavilion was in a sorry state of affairs having suffered from the effects of some rather un-creative graffiti and the boot of a stroppy teenager. With the generous donation of £200 from Palace Nightclub the team were well equipped with provisions to make a start on the restoration process. The cover up of some of the more eloquent phrases will take more than two coats of paint, I will leave you to work out what these might have been.

Anyway, after 4 hours hard work by the team the Pavilion was turned from a hovel to at least a cheap and cheerful 2* B & B. The team have some further coats to apply and bits and pieces to repair but with the start of the season about 2 months away, Cannington will be playing in Cannington's own home of Cricket
