Cannock travelled too edwardians looking to distance them from the pack in the mid table battle clash.
Edwardians kicked off, and Cannock applied early pressure, carries from Jon freeman and Stephen Frost kept Edwardians on the back foot, quick ball from Bobby Ball allowed Andy Lawson to put Scott Pedley through and bundle his opposition over only too be stopped by the covering fullback 5m sort of the try line. Edwardians defence held strong and turned over the ball and kicked away to relieve the pressure.
It was now Cannock's turn to defend as edwardians piled on the pressure, great tackling from Craig Richards and Jay Barret stopped them in there wake. But quick ball from Edwardians 9 saw their 10 put the 15 through a gap and poor tacking from Cannock saw him dot down underneath the posts. Converted 7-0
Great restart from Scott Pedley put Edwardians on the back foot in there own 22. Good defence from Cannock saw Edwardians spill the ball, scrum down Cannock ball.
Front row off Matt Madson, James Cummins and Craig Richards held strong to allow Jon freeman to pick the ball and head off on one of his wavy runs only to be brought down by their covering winger. Quick ball from Bobby ball allowed Andy Lawson too unleash the backs, great pace from Josh Humphreys beat his man only to again be brought down by edwardians 15. Cannock secured the ball and great Hands saw Ian Whitmell scored a well worked try in the coner.
Edwardians restarted only to find Joe Brookes who went serging down into there half to be tackled by there winger good support play by Conor Gladston secured the ball and allowed quick ball but all Edwardians players were offside and a penalty was awarded. Skipper Obi ley pointed to the posts. Up stepped Scott Pedley who made it 7-10 to the visitors.
Edwardians started the second half on top, created numerous phases of play punching holes in Cannock's defence. A few changes at the half with Halil coming off the bench and Eel moving to 10 bring Ley and Humphreys in to the centres together. Edwardians show good strength in the forwards and handled well through the backs and carried quickly back into Cannock half. Forwards defended well and turnover ball and the Cannock backs were on the attack, great pressure from Pedley, out to Ley who was tackled just outside the 22. Penalty awarded for the home team being off side!! Post called but it wasn't to be!!
22 drop out from the home team sees the ball go to Halil who powers through a few players and try's to offload to unleash the backs. After a a lot of scrums the Cannock pack was the struggling with the appalling conditions of the muddy pitch and just couldn't get a solid platform to work off. Cannock receives the ball and phase play begins, backs carry well and manage to brake through with excellent support play between Josh and Neil Hilage, but was bundled in to touch by a solid defence. Good lineout from the home team saw them put a simple phase ball together and missed tackles saw the fullback go through the middle of the park and dot down under the post.
Strong words from Bobby ball
got the lads refocused, the ball is caught and secured by the home team and good pressures from the pack allows another good turnover. Ball is passed out to Eel, they have their chance, taking full advantage of this the Connor finds himself getting a good position and breaks through the middle of park but well defended by Edwardians.
Cannock reset with the ball making its way through a massive Cannock attacking line, penalty given away by the defence. No time to wait around Skipper Ley tells Pedley to put it in to the corner. Solid throw from James Cummins and a good catch and drive and the backs pile in to get the march going, a perfect rolling maul sees Halil dot down for a cannock Try.
The home team restart the game quickly with some intent and quickly put Wrong to right and score a try, poor tackling by Cannock allowed them to creep back in!!
With only eight minutes to go left in the game, Cannock knew they had to apply as much pressure as possible to get a score. With fresh legs from Alex Freeman and phase after phase Cannock put the pressure on and attacked the Edwardians defence. Cannock knew they were short on time and was desperate to try and get the bonus point, however Cannock making silly mistakes, allowed the home team to score another try in the corner. A hard game for Cannock as the conditions of the pitch didn't allow them to play with the rugby they wanted to.
