Following the boys trip to Birmingham for Touch My Brum, Joe Ali has written a blog from his perspective on the tournament and here it is...

Earlier this year we were offered to take part in a touch rugby tournament comically named, Touch my Brum (remember there’s an R in there!).

The tournament would be a bit of a challenge for the team as we were so used to the usual contact aspects of rugby and we had to tone it down a hell of a lot – there were a lot of ‘I’m sorry’ let’s just say that.

Our first game went down a nice treat as we finished an impressive 3-1 and the boys began to feel the pressures ease – who knew us lot could be good at touch!
Throughout the competition we were met with familiar faces, from the Birmingham Bulls to the Newcastle Ravens, which was nice as a lot of the Lions hadn’t met or had the chance to really integrate with the other IGR rugby clubs. The integration also led to teams who were completely new to rugby coming out and having ago, which is always a lovely site to see.

Although the boys didn’t manage to take home the gold, we had a hell of a good time out there and showed our skills and gave it our all – the typical Lions spirit.
Remember, if you want to have a go at rugby – if you’re completely new to the sport or a veteran – then please don’t be scared to get in touch via our official facebook page.

Thanks Joe. For a full round up of the results from the Lions game head over to our fixtures and results page.
