Age Grade Rugby activities cancelled...................

With continuing concerns regarding the Corona virus outbreak, the decision has been taken to suspend all age grade rugby at Carlisle RFC for the time being, and until a further review has taken place.

Concerns were heightened on Thursday, 12th March with the closure of Trinity School in Carlisle after it was confirmed that a pupil had been diagnosed as being affected with the disease. Many of the young people in our age grade squads attend Trinity School. Therefore it was felt that it would not be prudent to continue with any of our age grade training and playing arrangements, certainly over the weekend of 14th / 15th March.

It is appreciated that this will cause disappointment to many, but most will surely agree that it is the right thing to do.

At the time of writing it is not known what the position is regarding Cumbria RFU age grade county games that are due to be played over the coming weeks. No specific information has been received from the constituent body so, given that we have suspended playing and training at our club, it would be unwise for people to play in county matches. To do so may create wider exposure to the corona virus.

As with Cumbria RFU, no specific advice or recommendations have been forthcoming from the Rugby Football Union. However, there is certainly general medical advice available on the RFU website and more information can be found in the press & broadcasting outlets, as well as on social media. Any official updates from CRFU and / or the RFU will be circulated as appropriate and published on this website.

We need to take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of all our members, and especially the youngsters who are the heartbeat and future of the our club.

Apologies for any inconvenience our decision may cause, but the safeguarding of children and young people is paramount.

Keep and eye on RFU, Cumbria RFU & club websites for updates.
