Another heavy defeat on the road and Carlisle find themselves deep in the relegation zone.
Shipping a try after a few minutes of play from a Wirral 5m lineout catch and drive was not a great start. Wirral upped the pressure from the restart and as Carlisle increasingly got on the wrong side of the referee, losing a man to the bin for repeated infringements , it cost us another 2 tries. With the bonus point try for Wirral after 20mins, and then the loss of Tanian Naude after half an hour to a dislocated ankle, Carlisle were always going to have an uphill battle.
Three Carlisle tries in the second half restored a little respectability to the scoreline, although Wirral countered with another two. Despite coming close to a losing bonus point for a fourth try, Wirral closed the game out, and we returned home with no points and another addition to the injury list.
