As a coach I spent most of the match frustrated as we didn't play well as a team.
Egremont had a number of U12's playing so we invited several of our U12's to play as they had no game. The U12's should be very proud of their contribution and my frustrations weren't in any way down to them.
We conceded three early tries and had very little possession for the first 10 minutes. At 19-0 down it looked like we were in for a long day. Egremont had played well and their pressure led to two overlaps on the right which with good handling managed to convert, soon after a great individual try from 50m out off Egremont's No8.
Adam Willis managed to score a very similar try out on the left wing to take the game to 19-7 to Egremont after the first 20 min.
The second 20 min had Carlisle creating great pressure on Egremont, unfortunately unforced errors and not recognising the overlaps and space meant we didn't get our full deserts. Our forwards were doing well at the line scrum and reasonable success at the break down but kept running straight at the opposition who were happy to tackle all day. Our backs again struggled to get the ball wide and although we had some great individual runs kept making it harder than it needed to be. Two individual tries from Adam Willis and Olliver Burns gave us a slender 21-19 lead going into the final 20min.
The third 20min was more productive Egremont had some pressure on the Carlisle line but some great defence kept the visitors out. There were further tries for Adam Willis and a quick tap off a penalty from Mathew Whitehead who took the ball on and showed great strength to off load to Richard Garbarino who went in to score in the right corner. Harry Hetherington missed from wide out but it was the only kick missed as he continues to impress with his place kicks.
The try of the day came from Harry Reed, Quick hands down the backs line left Harry a good 15m to run into, an arced run allowed Harry to run in from 55m showing great pace.
Plenty of good things came out of the game but also plenty to improve if we want to challenge for the cup.
