Carlton Town will start their FA Cup campaign with a trip to Barton Town in the Extra-Preliminary Round.

The Swans, as they are known, play in the Premier Division of the Northern Counties East League (step 5). With the expansion of step 4 of the pyramid, there has been a need to place some step 4 teams into the FA Cup at its earliest stage, and the Millers find themselves in the Extra-Preliminary round for the first time since 2007.

The game will be played on 10 August, a week before the league season starts. As a result the friendly against Bedworth scheduled for that day has been cancelled.

The winners of the tie will play at home to Grantham Town in the Preliminary Round two weeks later. They will also received £2250 with the losers receiving £750.

In fact, the FA have increased prize money across the board with the losers in each of the qualifying rounds receiving money. As such, the winners of the Barton v Carlton game will be guaranteed to receive £3210, factoring in the losers money from the next round.

In the FA Trophy Carlton will also start at the Extra-Preliminary round with a home tie against St Neots Town on 28 September. The winners will be at home to Biggleswade or Bedford Town.

The winning club will receive £1500 with the losers receiving £500. The expansion of the prize fund means that the losers in all rounds will receive prize money. The effect of this is that, factoring in the losing prize money in the next round, winning the tie is effectively worth £2250.
