An injury-ravaged Carlton Town pushed Banbury Utd all the way tonight but went out of the FA Cup following a 1-0 defeat.

Carlton went into the game with a host of players out injured but they acquitted themselves well against the step 3 Puritans.

Banbury's best spell came either side of half time when Carlton twice cleared off the line through Tyler Johal and Toby Moore but the Millers made opportunities of their own and passed the ball well on a fine surface.

With the game entering the final 20 minutes it was Carlton on top and Jonathan Mabonga was desperately close to opening the scoring, hitting a curling effort inches wide of the post.

The home side secured the win on 78 minutes when Georgio Rasulo, impressive throughout, fired low into the corner of the net from 20 yards.

Carlton laid siege to the Banbury goal in the final minutes and Oliver Clark saw a goalbound effort deflected away off the knees of the goalkeeper before Niall Davie fired the rebound just over the bar.

It wasn't to be for the Millers but they came over to a man to applaud the excellent travelling support who responded in kind.

The Millers return to action on Saturday with a trip to Spalding. A full report on tonight's game will be on site tomorrow.
