Carlton welcome Cleethorpes as the Owls enter the FA Cup at this, the 1st Qualifying Round.
The last time Cleethorpes were in town they got the win they required to seal the NPL East Division Title and have started life in the NPL Premier Division well, sitting in mid table with two wins and two draws from their six matches so far. That said, the Owls have hit a little bump recently as they’ve lost their last two games but this will be a huge task for the home side. Clee were dominant in the NPL East last year and beat the Millers 3-0 home and away and have only added to their already impressive squad.
Carlton beat Step 5 Barton Town 6-1 in the last round of the Cup and have made a decent start to their league campaign in the NPL Midlands. They drew with Long Eaton United on Bank Holiday Monday, a game in which they created enough chances to win three matches but it was a positive response to the loss against Lichfield last weekend.
The sides have only ever met once in the FA Cup, at this stage eleven years ago with Clee running out 3-2 winners.
Carlton must start to convert the abundance of chances they have been creating in recent games if they are to win here but they are capable of an upset having beaten higher league opposition in AFC Stamford in the FA Cup last season and having reached the 2nd Qualifying Round in each of the last two seasons they’ll be looking to progress.
