Following disappointment in the FA Cup and last week, the FA Trophy, Carlton Town are finally back on home turf in the last cup competition open to them this season as they enter the first round of the Notts Senior Cup against Clifton All Whites.
The Millers were dumped out of the competition at the first time of asking last season to a solid Sherwood Colliery side but have recent fonder memories of the County Cup having won it four times, most recently in 21/22 and then making the final the following season. They have lost their last two games though which is a worry. But, the last time they were on home soil they produced their best performance of the season against Cleethorpes Town.
Clifton are on a decent run of back to back wins, scoring nine goals in the process. A superb 4-1 win against Gedling in the league was backed up by an FA Vase 5-0 demolition of Pinchbeck. In the County Cup, the All Whites bettered their first round exit a couple of seasons ago by making the second round last year but were soundly beaten 6-2 by Retford United. The visitors have never won the cup but did make the final in the 2011/12 season losing 2-0 to Eastwood.
