Both Carlton and hosts, Cleethorpes avoided an early season fixture adjustment as they each swept aside their FA Cup Preliminary Round opposition at the weekend to allow this league fixture to proceed as was originally slated.
Cleethorpes brutalised Quorn in the Cup and raced to a 4-0 first half lead which was never troubled. Both Josh and Nicky Walker were on target as they were on the opening day of the season in another demolition job, against Brighouse. The Owls were held to a score draw in their second league game sharing the points with Stocksbridge and as such, they have four points, like their visitors. Carlton beat AFC Mansfield as they progressed in the Cup with Nat Watson among the goals, bagging a brace.
Both games between these two last year were close. Clee won this fixture 2-0 and judging by the way they’ve started this season this will be a stern test of the Millers’ defensive line. Despite not being as prolific as their hosts in the goal difference column, Carlton were only denied a second win of the season against Sheffield in their last league outing by an excellent display by Club’s glove man, Myles Wright so this game could provide some real fireworks.
