After a superb win on the road against Belper in midweek, Carlton’s busy month continues as the Doughboys of Wellingborough Town are next to visit the Bill Stokeld.
Sitting in tenth position the visitors had an inconsistent start to the season with a win, a draw and two losses in August. That form continued into September with three wins and three losses. Two of those wins, against Rugby Borough and Boldmere St Michaels were away from home and the Doughboys away form is notably better than on home turf. Where losses have been suffered its only ever by the odd goal and Wellingborough arrive here on a run of decent back to back draws against Lichfield, who won at the Stokeld earlier this season, and Corby Town. Will Jones has four goals in the league this year but contributions from eight others mean the visitors carry a solid goal threat and are another highly competitive opponent the Millers have to face.
Carlton have three wins in the last four since returning to league action and back to back wins coming into this fixture mean the home side should be growing in confidence. They inflicted Belper’s first league defeat of the season last time out with Niall Davie bagging his third goal of the campaign in that victory. Carlton have only played three league games on home turf so far this year but have won two of those.
Only three sides have conceded fewer goals than Carlton in the league and only four sides have scored less than Wellingborough this year. A potentially useless stat to end on but there we are.
