SMC Minutes - February 2025

Connor Hughes4 Mar - 12:52

SMC Minutes from February's meeting are now available

The club have recently benefitted from two grants, with one leading to permanent heating being installed (air to air), Solar panels (due to the orientation of the clubhouse, the most beneficial sighting of the panels was a bit of a challenge, eventually it was agreed to place 14 panels, split between the front and rear roof). LED lighting installed throughout and an increase in loft insulation. A great step forward. The club contributed just over 20% of the cost.

The second grant has enabled us to purchase a top quality Bola Professional bowling machine, which is yet to be delivered.

We were hoping to qualify for an additional grant that would have meant new furniture for the main room and flooring throughout. Unfortunately, the application was unsuccessful. However, I would still like to find a way to change all furniture and one idea will require everybody's help! Maybe more details will follow/

Hopefully, the few paragraphs show how much work is undertaken be very few, who aren't getting any younger! Please let me know if you can give some time to help in any of the areas noted or offer an hour or two per month to support your club.

One date we certainly need help is Saturday 5th April, Groundforce day (which is a nationwide initiative), which is when all members can get together to do various chores around the ground. A list of what's needed will be sent beforehand.

One final date for the diary is Saturday 12th April. The club had such a successful day last April when they held a cake sale at Caerwys Town Hall and will be holding the same event again. Refreshments will also be available. Further details will be forwarded but put the date in your diary. It's the incredibly hard work of a few (mostly Sarah Hughes who makes the vast majority of the cakes) , to raise money that helps support the club to have the heating etc. Without having the money to pay 20% we wouldn't have received the grant. There is a significant amount between what the club receive in membership fees to the cost of running the club, with the excess needing to be found mostly from volunteers finding ways to try and raise money. Once we aim to cover annual club costs we then need to try and raise an additional amount for unexpected expenditure, (which does raise its head far too often), with additional funds then required to improve facilities.

Further details of highlighted dates to follow
