So we had Josh Wilson on the wing and John Greenland on the bench both trying to get some game time after layoffs. TJ Sanders was also in the squad after a well earned rest of over a decade!
Tyldseley took the game to Carnforth and the experimental 2nd row pairing of Brian Albiston and Stephen Mallett struggled in the early scrums something had to change. But in the meantime we Carnforth had work to do defending across the park Michael Walker and Joe Beswetherick putting in good tackles to blunt Tyldseley attack. They broke through off another scrum and from 40 yards out went wide to score 5- 0.
From the kickoff Carnforth pressured high up the pitch but Tydlsey broke and went wide then back down the middle of the pitch cutting past Jack Edmondson who nearly got a tap tackle Dave Jones was nearest to the centre as he went under the posts 12 - 0
So John Edmondson went to John Greenland replacing Mallett after 20 minutes and stability returned to the Carnforth scrum. Which for the hard working front row of Shaun Hodge, Keith Lovering and Dave Jones must have been a better feeling.
Still Tyldseley may have been slowed at the scrum but they moved ball well and kept pressing carnforth another break scored again 19 -0.
Matty Lovering was in the thick of it defensively and took a cut under the chin so another forwards was on the wing with TJ Sander on after 25 minutes. Donald Haddow had to leave back row duties and moved to the wing to allow TJ to move into the pack.
Carnforth regrouped and got the kick off back and then pressed to with inches of the try line before a 5m scrum was awarded after another series of rucks scrum half Bradley Morrow squeezed through to score. Where had Carnforth hidden the kicking tee - question for the week - Kev Hardy worked through this adversity to convert. 19 - 7.
Just before half time Jack Edmondson was in another heavy challenge and injured his shoulder having to leave the game hope it heals quickly as he would be missed by our club. Matty Lovering came back on and Donald Haddow moved into Scrum half his 3rd position of the day with Morrow going into the centres. AS the 2nd half started Brian Albiston was rested and Stephen Mallett came back on. The work rate was higher from both sides and the referee was trying to keep on top of the game with many infringements a lot of scrums were played. Owen Branford at flanker kept working and was nearly as vocal as Michael Walker getting people to support them in defence & attack.
Tyldseley scored twice more to run out 34 - 7 winners
After the game both teams enjoyed a good evening in the bar despite England failing to hold on! Thanks to our travelling supporters it is great to have them along
