Burnley came with a stronger squad with a few replacements unlike in the league game. This Burnley XV had scored 82 points all season and been involved in some close games but with a full club of players to choose from they scored 55 points with no reply????

From the start the wind & rain were factors encouraging short passes & running rugby. Burnley's forwards worked hard to take a dominate position. Making good driving mauls to set up the centres for bursting runs. The initial 15 mins were examples of stout defence & wet ball keeping Burnley from scoring. Eventually they broke through 0 -5.
20 minutes in Keith Lovering pulled a calf muscle & the hooker had to be replaced by Stephen Mallett in front row & Clayton Stevens moving to be hooker. The scrum had been struggling against a good Burnley pack and continued to do so .
Burnely exploited gaps and scored a 3 more tries up till half time.

With the end of the 1st half and a chance to regroup wholesale changes occurred with a good group of sub to choose from. Rowan woods, Jordan Woodhouse, Alex Albiston all getting onto the pitch. Replacing Erik Buckley, Adam Hartley, George Hoyle,.

The second half got off to a less than ideal with the kick-off being run back at Carnforth for a try.
