13s MOVE JOINT TOP FOR CHRISTMAS

The first half was a tight affair, with both teams struggling to take control. Carniny created several half chances but struggled to beat the goalkeeper. Portavogie were playing on the counter attack to catch Carniny out with quick long balls over the top but Reuben Burnett and Zach McAtamney at the back did well to keep the strikers contained. The deadlock was broken halfway through the first half when Carniny won a corner. James Robinson did well to get onto it and rifle the ball on the half volley into the top corner. Within several minutes of the restart Portavogie were on the attack winning a dangerous freekick on the edge of the box. The well taken freekick was excellently saved by Calum McDonald in the Carniny goal to keep the score 1-0.

The game changed at the start of the second half when Callum King for Carniny burst into the box, his deflected shot fell to Robinson who placed the ball into the bottom corner for 2-0. Carniny now had control of the game, with the third goal coming shortly after when Charly Gregg rose highest at a corner to score with his head. The fourth goal came from a Kyal Rainey run from right back the whole length of the pitch, the Portavogie goalkeeper did well to save his initial shot but couldn’t hold it and Gregg reacted first to put the ball in the net. The final goal of the game came from another corner, Gregg bringing the ball down in the box with his first touch and smacking it in the net with his second. Carniny pushed for more goals with Ben McCosh and Ben Harte going close with efforts towards the end. Great team performance, with the players stepping it up in the second half to take the 3 points.
